The Shah Rukh Khan Wankhede Brawl (Ball-By-Ball)

Rashmi Daryanani

In the last few days, there has been so much drama surrounding the Shah Rukh Khan/MCA officials brawl at the Wankhede, that it’s getting hard to keep the entire story straight. Here’s the whole incident broken down for you, ball-by-ball!

Wednesday

SRK arrived at the stadium to pick up his daughter and her friends, approximately half an hour after the Mumbai Indians/Kolkata Knight Riders match ended. He went to congratulate his team while the kids tried to get onto the pitch to play around. That’s when the whole issue started – the security officials allegedly manhandled the kids in an attempt to get them to stop playing, and SRK, becoming angry, retaliated. The issue escalated and abuses were flung around.

Thursday

Shah Rukh held a press conference at his house to clarify the issue – he claimed that he acted the way he did because he saw security officials behaving roughly with the kids and pushing the young girls around. He told them that this is not the way to behave, and claimed the official told him something that he couldn’t repeat. He agreed to acting in a fit of anger, but said he would not apologize.

Several celebs even began tweeting their support for Shah Rukh.

Friday

The MCA officials put a five-year ban on Shah Rukh, which would prevent him from entering the Wankhede stadium, through all formats of the game. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) can intervene, and says they will look into the matter on Monday.

Meanwhile, a 14-year-old eyewitness came forth with his story, saying that SRK was only defending the children who were with him, only blowing up when the officials misbehaved with the girl children.

Saturday:

One of the security guards who was involved said he only blew his whistle and put his hand on the kids to stop them from entering the stadium. He added that he fears for his life, because “these are wealthy, powerful people.”

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh attended his team’s match in Pune against the Pune Warriors, where he looked (in my opinion) a bit sad and wary while talking to the media. However, since his team won the match, I’m guessing his mood was considerably improved. He then posted his first tweet since March – just one photo, no words, perhaps an indication to everyone about what really matters – the cricket, and not this drama:

Now we’re all just waiting to see whether his ban will be revoked by the BCCI, though Shah Rukh stated that he doesn’t want to go back himself, if this is the way security officials behave. Meanwhile, he will be pinning his hopes on his team (who have qualified for the elimination round) to win the IPL season.
