The new crime show Bandiish stars Karan Tacker (Love Ne Mila Di Jodi, Punar Vivah fame) and Karan Mehra (Virudh, Blood Money). For both of them, Bandiish will be a shift in the kind of roles they do – and it’ll be interesting to see how they fit the bill of criminals and jail inmates.
Bandiish also features a lovely music track and video that I think you’ll really like. We spoke to Karan Tacker, Karan Mehra and director Adeeb Rais on this music video (which they call “the music video with a difference). Read on to check out the video and see what they’ve told us!
Adeeb Rais, “The music video is experimental and unique. We decided to keep it simple and subtle. We ditched lavish sets, outdoor locations and heavy dance choreography for a 100 sq feet room with barely any set design. I had the option of roping popular female actors opposite Karan Tacker in the video, but I thought it would be more interesting to see a fresh face instead. We went ahead with Chalang. They bounced a great song to us and we saw immense potential in both the band and the song. It’s sure to touch many hearts. ”
Karan Tacker, “Bandiish happened as an experiment for my own creative satisfaction. I wanted to see myself look different, dark edgy, gritty. Actually MadMidaas Films convinced me that I’d look convincing in an edgy character, because I personally thought I have a very young face to be taken in a serious role…
But the taking of the entire video has been so beautiful that you are bound to look beyond the actor and just see the character. That’s why I felt this video could touch the hearts of millions. I want to thank these guys at MadMidaas Films for showing me this different side of me. I wish this works out for all of us.”
Karan Mehra, “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.” We all have heard this saying before, but in keeping with Bandiish and my character, I would say: “All work and no jail, makes me a dull boy.” Well, true to this saying, my character enjoys jail more than being free. Likewise, all other characters have a distinctive and unique story to tell, all behind the bars. It’s a never seen before kind of series which involves the lives of fellow prisoners and their dichotomy of the inside and outside world’s. Talking about its shoot, what really excited me about Bandiish was the storyline and the way it was conceived. While playing a cop in Blood Money, I was offered the character. It was fun switching from tough cop to a free spirited, fun loving inmate. I had a great time shooting this and the team of MadMidaas Films was right on the money with the whole mood of the song. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did.”
The video also marks the debut of Shalaka Hatkar, who’s very pretty and actually looks like your regular girl next door:
One of the things I miss the most about the 90s is those non-film music videos – they were all the rage back then, but the trend seems to have died down now. Hopefully the Bandiish music video will help contribute to the revival of those independent music videos!
