When Rashmi asked me if a Bollywood film could be given a “U” certificate if it included a kissing scene, I figured I’d ask director extraordinaire Tarun Mansukhani. I love his answer which I take to mean that if the girl kisses you back then the censors might object, if she’s running away that’s reel life. *lol* #BollywoodLearnings
When we made an April Fools joke about Emraan Hashmi saying no to kissing scenes, we never thought we’d really see the day. However, we must have sensed something, because while he’s obviously not giving up kissing scenes for good, he announced he’s doing a film that will get a ‘U’ certificate – for the first time! What was his motivation behind doing such a film when he’s best known for his steamy scenes?
The reason behind him picking a U film is children! He stated that he was shooting in Jaipur a few years ago and a bunch of children came up to him to say they liked watching his songs, but their parents wouldn’t let them watch his films. So he promised them that the day he gets a good script, he’ll do a film for them. And, he says, he has found that good script – it’s still in the pre-production stage so there’s no formal announcement yet, but it is geared towards a universal audience.
I find it interesting how children seem to love Emraan Hashmi. My six-year-old cousin insists his favourite actor is Emraan, and I always wonder how that happened since he clearly doesn’t get to watch most of his films. So, I guess this move will make Emraan’s young fans (and their parents!) very happy.
What do you think – when you take away those steamy scenes and hard-hitting dialogues, will Emraan Hashmi still have his appeal?
