Last night, Mumbai city played host to a rare collection of art furniture as former Miss India Uttara Kher and her husband Adwait Kher, launched their teakwood art furniture collection at the display organized at BMB Gallery in Mumbai.
The exhibition was based on the theme Axe the Axe – since all their furniture is made without cutting or harming any living trees. It was inaugurated by Bollywood star, Shabana Azmi.
Among the famous faces we spotted were Yash Birla, Prahlad Kakkar, Devika Bhojwani, Baba Azmi, Tanvi Azmi, Smita Jaykar, Aditya Thackeray and Rashmi Thackeray.
Some of the exhibits at the gallery included coffee tables made out of the axle of bullock carts, bar cabinets made out of facades of carved wood, folding sofas made from old chests, charming lanterns and many others nick-knacks. All of these creations have a rural and tribal touch to them.
Said Uttara and Adwait Kher, “At Uttara & Adwait furniture, we do not, and will not ever destroy a living tree to make furniture. A considerable amount of our resources are spent in sourcing guilt-free wood. We believe that nature is worth the extra effort. Each piece is designed to be passed to the generations to come as a family heirloom.”
