Renowned designers, Swapnil Shinde & Siddhartha Tytler showcased their collections on Day 5 of Lakme Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2012, and it was nothing less than, um, interesting.
Siddhartha Tytler
The lights dimmed, and then there was black. Not the usual colour one would expect at a summer/ resort collection showcase, but then again, the colour seems to be making a comeback this season. Black and grey, digitally printed, shimmer dresses took to the runway in Siddhartha’s latest collection, titled My Journey. The use of satin, appliqué and crystals, upped the glam quotient, of what would otherwise be considered an ordinary line of silhouettes made up of kaftans, gowns, deconstructed dresses, corsets with side peplums and jumpsuits. The main use of colours was seen in the colour blocking and embroidery, which was prevalent on body-hugging corsets, bodysuits and long skirts. Show-stopper, Sonali Bendre, ended the show in a deep-brown mini and multi-coloured embroidered cover-up; it was hard to tell which of the two was more stunning.
Swapnil Shinde
Fashionista meets Lady Gaga meets outer-space. There’s no wonder that Swapnil Shinde chose to name his latest collection Untitled; it’s tough to find words to describe it. Let’s start with the shoes. OMG! I want a pair…LED neon- it, high heeled space boots. Do I need to say more? With this collection, Swapnil showed us that the future is closer than we think. Intergalactic silhouettes, that looked like snakes wrapped around the body, layered the most ladylike chiffon gowns; satin pantsuits teamed with armour-like vests, capes and stunning corsets with flowing, layered skirts, marched down the runway to make for a collection that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
