Anita Dongre’s collection has a very strong American 40/50s theme; she merged this very Mad Men aesthetic, with Indian fabrics, to give us a great collection that the everyday stylish girl wants to wear. The face of the brand Dipanita Sharma, stole the show, making it known that the ‘once a model, always a model’ saying is so true.
Since the collection was sponsored by Design HQ by Godrej, there was a fun 3d element to the show. Models walked half way through the ramp and started to act with imaginary objects; when you looked at the screen overhead, you saw that they were actually playing with the products from Godrej’s line. Intersting, but it didn’t quite mesh with the whole collection.
While there were saris and maxi dresses, the real strength was the cocktail dresses. It was nice to see that Anita brought back that new look silhouette to her garments – it’s a flattering shape for all women as it emphasizes the smallest part of your body – the waist. It was also really refreshing to see the fun T-length back on the runway. Although I love my maxi dresses, the T-length is perfect for summers. Anita always has a beautiful bright pallette of colours when it comes to summer/ resort, and this time she stuck to whites, pastel greens and pinks, while deepening the tone with inky blues and back.
Being that Day 3 of fashion week was dedicated to Indian textiles, Anita Dongre merged this collection with beautiful Indian fabrics. Chikkankari, ikkat, bhandhini and even batik, was so well made into garments that could be worn globally, which essentially was the whole idea of having a day dedicated to our strong fabrics. Anita Dongre’s show was a great note to end the day with, and I’m sure we’ll all be hitting her store to get these dresses!
