Bhairavi Jaikishan‘s show, at Lakme Fashion Week, was very signature – floaty and dreamy Indian silhouettes in pastel hues and fine embroidery. This is a look we’ve seen over the years, and it’s one that works well for the designer! After all, if you’re looking for a dose of regal elegance, it’s a Bhairavi Jaikishan saree/ lehenga. which you must have in your wardrobe.
After being a well-known name in the fashion industry for well over a decade, this was the first time Bhairavi has showcased her bridal creations at Lakme Fashion Week. And even though this is the summer/ resort season, the designer defends her stance of displaying wedding wear, saying, “Beach and resort weddings are a common practice today! Hence I chose to show off my bridal line !”
“These are garments that can be worn for a summer wedding by the bride and her family, without being overwhlemed with heavy textiles and embroideries,” adds the affable designer.
Called the Sensuous Woman, the colour pallete in this collection, moved from dull golds and pastels, to vibrant blues, pinks, turquoise and vermillion, wtih tulles, nets and lame, creating the image of the ethereal woman.
Each outfit, while having Bhairavi’s trademark floral motifs, was further accentuated with embroidered cummerbands, waistbands and shoulder lapels with tassels.
As her show-stopper, Bhairavi chose Bollywood debutante Amy Jackson to walk the ramp in a gossamer net lehenga in pistachio, with silver and pale pink floral motifs.
Spotted in the front row were Bhairavi’s mother, Pallavi Jaikishan and Pooja Bedi with Sky Sehgal.
