Sometimes you really don’t know where life will take you, and for Somy Ali, that definitely holds true. As NY Times reported, she went from being a young girl in Miami to a Bollywood starlet who dated Salman Khan, and now is the founder of a non-profit organization No More Tears.
We all have our Bollywood crushes, and for Somy Ali, that’s how it began – she crushed hard on Salman Khan, and thought that in order to meet him, she’d have to join films. She headed to Mumbai, got her portfolio made, and by some strike of luck, Salman himself called her and offered her a role. Soon after, Salman broke up with then-girlfriend Sangeeta Bijlani to date Somy, and they were together for eight years.
Then, Salman moved onto Aishwarya Rai, which Somy claims was karma for her. Somy moved back to America, not sure what to do with her life – and then one day, a Bangladeshi neighbour arrived at her doorstep, bleeding and saying that she’d been beaten for ten years. Somy Ali rescued her and helped her stand on her own feet – the woman got a divorce and later graduated from nursing school. That led to the creation of No More Tears, which has helped many women and children get back on their own feet. So life has been pretty much a roller coaster for Somy, but it sounds like she’s contented with her life right now, so I guess that’s all that matters. 🙂
