We love it when Indian’s make us proud on the global fashion map, and among the big Indian names who have established themselves on foreign shores, we can now add Orissa-born Bibhu Mohapatra, to the list.
The extremely talented designer, premiered at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week a few days ago, and showed-off thirty, sinfully beautiful pieces, inspired by the early 20th century Chinese opera, The White Haired Girl. This was of course, the Fall/Winter collection for 2012, and Bibhu has incoprorated subtle Chinese design elements, like the colour red, high collars and patterned lace overlaid, on fabric.
What’s more, he even had Hollywood actress Glenn Close sitting in the front row!
If you want to see one of his collections up-close and personal, you need to be at Lakme Fashion Week on 3rd March 2012, where Bibhu will display his Fall-Winter collection for the first time ever, in India.
I’m really excited to see this show, and get you an interview with the designer as well. So watch this space…
