Niharika Khan won the Best Costume award at the Filmfare Awards, held yesterday in Mumbai; she not only won for Vidya Balan’s outfits, but, for all the costumes throughout the movie. When you are chosen to do costumes for a movie, it is usually for everyone in the movie – from the cop who stands in the corner for 3 seconds, to the hero of the movie. However, this post would probably be pretty boring if I talk about all the wallflowers in the movie, so we shall focus (and how can you not) on Vidya Balan’s outfits.
When it comes to modern day trends, the erogenous zones are the shoulders and the back. However in The Dirty Picture, the zone that was most focused on was the midriff. All Vidya’s looks in the movie had her showing off her midriff. Niharika did this mainly because in the 80’s the sexiest part of a woman (especially in the south) was a slim curvy waist.
What would any Silk Smita be without a good display of ample bosom huh? The sweetheart neckline or a really scooped neckline, was the key staple for all the looks. The blouses are also really short in length, which lends to a longer torso & really shows off Vidya’s curves in the movie.
Although, Silk Smita was a very 80s figure, the styling of this movie is reminiscent of the 60s/70s. The frill blouses and polka dots, especially, are very 60s. So readers, now that we’ve watched the movie and seen some of the costumes, do you think it was deserving of the Best Costume award?
