Get ready for Oscar fever! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for The 84th Academy Awards, scheduled to take place on 26th February. While Martin Scorsese’s Hugo is leading the race with 11 nominations, here’s a look at a few of the other nominees.
The Best Picture Nominations went to predicted favorites of the year: The Descendants (releasing in India this week), The Artist & Hugo. Along with these films, the Academy has nominated War Horse, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, Midnight in Paris, The Help and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Best friends George Clooney & Brad Pitt have reason to celebrate as they’ve both been nominated for Best Actor this year for their respective films, The Descendants & Moneyball, alongside Demian Bichir for A Better Life, Jean Dujardin for The Artist & Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
My favorite actress, Meryl Streep, has been nominated for Best Actress for her role in Iron Lady but has tough competition from Glenn Close in Albert Nobbs, Rooney Mara in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Viola Davis in The Help & Michelle Williams in My Week With Marilyn.
In the Supporting Actor category, the nominees are Kenneth Branagh for My Week With Marilyn, Jonah Hill for Moneyball, Nick Nolte for Warrior, Christopher Plummer for Beginners and Max von Sydow for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
When it comes to Supporting Actress, the nominees are Berenice Bejo for The Artist, Jessica Chastain for The Help, Melissa McCarthy for Bridesmaids, Janet McTeer for Albert Nobbs and Octavia Spencer for The Help.
The Best Director category has Hollywood stalwarts competing against each other: Martin Scorsese for Hugo, Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris, Terrence Malick for The Tree of Life, Alexander Payne for The Descendants and Michel Hazanivicus for The Artist.
I have a whole lot of movies to catch up on before the Oscars air next month. Who are you rooting for??!
