The 19th of January saw Jean Paul Gaultier, popularly known as the Enfant Terrible of French haute couture, showing his men’s collection for Fall/Winter 2012-2013, in Paris.
While his last year’s line was inspired by James Bond, this time around, the maverick designer looks towards the other legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, for inspiration!
Most of the models wore the customary hat, but Holmes’s iconic walking stick didn’t make it as an accessory in this line-up.
In fact, one of the models even had reddish hair and looked like he’d dropped straight out of the pages of The Red Headed League.
However, if it’s Gaultier, you can also expect men in skirts and there were plenty of those to choose from for the coming winter season.
At times, the “skirts” were worn over trousers, at times they were worn long with no trousers, at times they were worn with digitally printed pull-overs and at times, they had slits at the back as well.
Here is a snippet of the show which I found on YouTube. Check it out! You may also notice a quick glance of Andre Pejic, the transvestite model, who Gaultier kisses right at the end.
