In 2005, I attended Anupam Kher‘s one-man autobiographical play Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai in Miami. In this play, Mr Kher spoke about failure and how, at one time, things were going really well with him and he was on top of the world – until everything started crashing down around him. While I may not remember much of what he said, I definitely remember the earnest way in which he spoke – sometimes laughing at his own expense. After that bad phase in his life, things started looking up again – and there came the inspiration for his book, The Best Thing About You is You, where he talks about failure, success, and everything in between. Also present at the launch were Amitabh Bachchan, Arnab Goswami, Nidhi Razdan, Ashok Chopra, Kirron Kher, Pritish Nandy and Ashutosh.
Mr Kher invited them all to launch the book with him because he felt they had some connection with his life. It was a cozy little gathering where they all read a chapter each from the book. And I can say, having cracked the spine of the book, that it reads well – the chapters are short and you can pick what you want to read at any particular time. It’s light and can provide inspiration if you need it… maybe I’ll do a proper book review once I’ve finished reading. 🙂
I quite liked the concept of the book – it’s so easy to get caught up in the web of self-depreciation. Sometimes you really just want someone to tell you that the best thing about you is, indeed, you. Another really cool thing at this event was that they asked people to say “The best thing about you is you!” on camera – nice for positive reinforcement. 😉
MissMalini even asked Kirron Kher a question – what, in her opinion, was the best thing about Anupam Kher? Mrs Kher had to think (apparently there are so many!), and then she said that he used to be very romantic. When asked if he still is, she said, “No. Now he writes books.” Teehee! Well, with the book out of the way, I certainly hope this couple can find time for romance again. 😉
