In 1974, Yuko Shimizu of the Sanrio Company, Japan, designed Kitty White, a cute Japanese bobtail kitten accessorized with a simple red bow on her head. She first appeared on a vinyl coin-purse for children, only to go on to become one of the world’s most iconic cartoon images, popularly known as Hello Kitty, and is still popular 37 years later.
This December, Elle Magazine’s Taiwanese edition has Hello Kitty on the cover of it’s Twentieth Anniversary Edition.
The cover has two variations: One with Kitty all in pink feathers (MissMalini must grab a copy) and the other with her wearing a polka-dot dress.
Now we’re waiting for Betty Boop to feature on the cover of Vogue!
