On Javed Jaffrey’s birthday, we celebrate the man and his many avatars. Over the years Javed has earned the position of one of India’s top dancers, comedians and impressionists. So here’s a look at the different wonderful forms of entertainment Javed has employed to entertain us and the ones we loved the most.
1) The Versatile Actor
Javed made his Bollywood debut with Subhash Ghai’s Meri Jung in the year 1985 where he excelled in a negative role. I loved him as the funny but evil landlord in cowboy boots, Jaggu in Salaam Namaste. He was totally the bomb and we loved his hilarious ( and questionable) English and that crazy accent which won him an IIFA Award for Best Actor In A Comic Role.
Javed played an important character in Dhamaal and Double Dhamalal where he was extremely funny too. From playing Mika Singh in Singh is King to the lovable Harry in Ta Ra Rum Pum, Javed has had a formidable presence in some of the biggest movies in the past decade.
But one of my favorites was his role of an army lawyer along with Rahul Bose in Shaurya. He really proved that he’s just as good in serious roles as well.
2) The Lord Of Dance
Javed along with his brother Naved Jaffrey and Ravi Behl conceptalized and hosted the dance show Boogie Woogie on Sony Entertainment Television. The show was a grand success and became the longest running dance show on Indian T.V (over fifteen years).
Javed was the permanent celebrity judge on the show and his super cool ‘ Step of the week’ moves had us all glued to our television sets.
Also, the three of them have super chemistry and make a super hilarious team. I can’t wait for an all new season.
3) The King Of Comedy
When I was little, I loved Javed in the Maggie Ketchup commercials with Pankaj Kapur and he still continues to rock in them. And he’s also the voice of Pogo’s Takeshi Castle which the kids love.
Apart from some fab comedy films to his credit, Javed has also anchored like a whole load of popular shows like Videocon Flashback with his unique style, impeccable comic timing and superb expressions.
4) A Super Impressionist
Javed’s local tapori act in the song ‘I am Mumbhai’ from Bombay Boys was a huge success. On his show, Timex Timepass everyone loved watching him switch characters with the greatest of ease.
Even in the Dhamaal series, Javed impersonates a girl and everyone admired his effortless act.
Despite his blessed genes, Javed has never taken his acting and dance career for granted. He’s worked really hard to reach the level of excellence he’s at and it’s commendable to see his delightful and humongous body of work.
We’re truly grateful to Javed for entertaining us over the years in all his several avatars. Team MissMalini wishes Javed Jaffrey a rocking birthday full of laughter and loved ones.
