Acclaimed music director and Indian Idol judge Anu Malik turns 51 today; here’s a look at some of his biggest hits!
Tere Dar Par Sanam – Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee
Born into a musical family Anu Malik gained fame in the early 90s with films like Baazigar, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Khuddar and Main Khiladi Tu Anari.
Ye Kaali Kaali Aankhein – Baazigar
Malik preferred to work with singer Kumar Sanu for most of his compositions which led them to deliver a string of hits throughout the 90s.
Ke Ghar Ab Aaoge (Sandeshe Aate Hain) – Border
Sonu Nigam rose to fame when Malik gave him a chance to sing in the film Border which has become one of the most popular patriotic songs till date.
Bheege Hont – Murder
Bheege Hont was reportedly a copy of a Pakistani song by Najam Sheraz which wasn’t much of a surprise given Malik has been accused of being a little too “inspired” by popular tunes a number of times.
Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaaye – Kalyug
Like many music directors Malik has sang in many of his compositions and even released a few private albums including one in English titled Eyes.
Chunari Chunari – Biwi No.1
Malik has been the only judge who’s been present on all the seasons of Indian Idol and was the only Indian judge on Asian Idol.
Chori Chori Jab Nazrein Mili – Kareeb
Panchi Nadiya Pawan – Refugee
Malik received the National Award for the melodious tunes in the 2000 film Refugee.
Tumse Milke – Main Hoon Na
The family tradition of being part of the music industry has continued with Malik’s daughter Anmol who made her singing debut in the 2006 film Umrao Jaan.
Roshni Se – Asoka
The music of Asoka was one of Malik’s most critically acclaimed soundtracks, though the film didn’t do well the music continues to be appreciated.
