Hello 🙂 so I’ve been meaning to tell you about this awesome album I came across recently. This wonderful chappie called Mikey McCleary has a whole CDs-worth of proof that Classic Bollywood is truly timeless. In fact at his album preview at Blue Frog, he brought back to life all that those heart-breaking old-school Bollywood songs were meant to be; and he did it with a very Moulin Rouge meets Chicago ba-dum dum beat to boot!
P.S. Kalki Koechlin was there (btw she and Mikey go back to the coke jingle they did together with Imran Khan) and she also told me what she thought of this album! Of course musical muses Anushka Manchanda, Mauli Dave, Suman Shridhar (via satellite from Berlin! Very OB1 Kenobi I thought.) and Pallavi Sharda joined Mikey on stage and stunned us all… wanna see?
Who is, The Bartender?
Mikey McCleary goes by the name “the Bartender” when he’s on stage, the album – Classic Bollywood, Shaken Not Stirred – is a seductive, late night drinks themed album featuring some of the most beautiful songs from 50s and 60s Bollywood which have been remade in a jazzy, sexy way that is true to the soul of the original songs. It includes Khoya Khoya Chand from Shaitan and Tum jo mil gaye ho from the coke “invisible bottle” TV ad.
I also loved seeing Pallavi Sharda break out some classic (aka full emo) Bollywood style dance moves during Mauli Dave’s rendition of Chalte Chalte…
