In 1990, a film titled Agneepath released. It was produced by Yash Johar and directed by Mukul S. Anand. The cast included Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Rohini Hattangadi and Danny Denzongpa. Unfortunately, the film did not meet with commercial success. However, Yash Johar believed the film deserved its due and expressed a wish to remake it to his son, Karan Johar. It’s 2011 and I have returned from the theatrical trailer unveiling of a reconstructed Agneepath. Produced by Karan Johar and directed by another Karan (Malhotra), the film stars Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor.
Unsurprisingly, there was a huge media presence. And so many questions to be asked to the cast and crew. Everyone wanted to know how the remake was different from the original. To which, the entire cast and crew only had to say that the film is more of a re-adaptation and re-construction as compared to a remake. Of course, there is a curiosity on how Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt plan to meet with the comparisons that will be made to Amitabh Bachchan and Danny Denzongpa. To which, both answered that the characters had been tweaked and they weren’t very worried.
The funnest answers were from Rishi Kapoor who spoke of how he found it absurd to be even approached for the role because he has barely ever portrayed a dark character. On speaking of his look in the film, he joked Neetu Singh was scared when she saw him but explained no one had watched the film to comment. He shared how he appeared for a look test for the film and it was for the first time in 20 years he had done so. Moving on to the director, Karan, who shares his name with the producer is lovingly referred to as KM (short for Karan Malhotra) by everyone.
The pleasure of being at the event was heightened because the first look was so darn good! It has definitely built up some excitement.
