Hey Bollywood, Shall We Dance?

Hey Bollywood, Shall We Dance?

Meenaxi

I’ve been watching a lot of movie trailers recently, and have been loving and hating some dance moves. Some steps are fun, some are tired, some so funny you gotta love them, and some just bad.

Bodyguard promos are airing on every channel possible, and in case you didn’t know, Salman Khan owns Eid. I just love the Desi Beats song and the embroidered red desi vest he wears. So much nicer than the Being Human tees he lives in these days. Anyhow. About Bodyguard. Love the title track. The one which has Katrina Kaif as the co-item (sorry Kat, but when Salman Khan is in a song, he is the item. Everyone else comes second.)

I used to think that Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan was awesome because she could raise one eyebrow at a time in sync to the music. But Sallu can make his biceps dance to the beat! I’ll admit, I watch this song just so I can see Sallu’s biceps go one-two-one-two. So much fun!

As for Katrina… why do I feel like every dance she does now has a hint of Sheila in it? The same belly-dance moves coupled with the side-step-dhak-dhak routine. TIRED. And the dhak-dhak belongs to Madhuri Dixit-Nene. No one can (or should) touch it. She owns it. She perfected it.

Still on the subject of Kat… have you seen the promos of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan? The Madhubala song… where Imran Khan, Ali Zafar and Kat are dressed in matching ensembles of blue jeans, white tees and checked shirts. That is sooo 1998. It actually is. Salman Khan and Twinkle Khanna wore matching blue denims and checked shirts for a song in the film Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hain. It’s so ancient even Google couldn’t find me a decent image.

But Imran Khan… he is my latest love. I’ve developed a major celebrity crush on him since Delhi Belly. I can watch him dance in the middle of the road, on bus, or atop a train, even if those moves are inspired by SRK, Aamir Khan and Salman. I will watch him dance because he is just so darn cute!!

Another promo that has been hitting us with full force is John Abraham-Genelia D’Souza starrer Force (pathetic pun intended.) Genelia is wearing flowy clothes and too much bronzer and jumping around like a martial artist in the desert and in front of monuments.

That doesn’t look like a dance step, it looks like an attack by the Praying Mantis in Kung Fu Panda.
