One of our very own designers at fashion week will be showing at the prestigious Berlin Fashion Week the coming January.
The shortlisted two came down to the very talented Aneeth Arora and Kallol Datta. Working his characteristic design sensibilities into his garments, Kallol Datta’s Winter/Festive 2011 collection for Lakmé Fashion Week was an extension of his Fall/Winter 2011-12 line done earlier. Choosing some unusual fabrics for the season, Kallol opted for wool, wool blends, silk, crepes, satins, nets, voiles, kora silks, gauze and calico in a dual colour palette of black and white with hints of blue and pink. Braids and tassels in natural and artificial fibres (read Tirupathi locks) were embellishments for dresses with foil printing and gypsum coating.
The collection was presented in graphic black and white, each model cutting a stark figure. Be it the hooded dress, the hair fringed pockets, the geometric printed sarees or the long raw silk capes, the designer made a visual impact akin to a Tarantino movie. Kallol is designer who takes fashion seriously, and his no frills approach is refreshing.
Aneeth on the other hand had a more simplistic approach with smock tops, peasant skirts and an easy wear-ability factor. Gathered muls and cottons, layered in shades of muddy taupe and ecru, patterned stockings and sturdy boots made for a simple yet chic look.
We sure hope both these talented designers get their foothold on a global platform, representing Indian fashion in its textile rich, and zardozi free form. Stay tuned to know more!
