Remember Ishiqa? A good movie that could have been so much better. So anyway during the promotional run up of the movie, the leading lady Vidya Balan was spotted in the some of the printed, bright-coloured sarees from the movie.
I have mixed feelings towards this trend of being “in-character” during promotions. I mean of course I understand being consistent with the overall theme of the movie… for example if it’s a young, college rom-com it is only natural that the actress will be in smart casuals for her promotion campaign rather than in high couture gowns or designer sarees. But having said which wearing the exact same look from the film borders on tackiness. Nautanki as a friend of mine would say. Imagine Tobey Maguire promoting Spiderman wearing the spider-suit or Natalie Portman promoting Black Swan attired in a ballet uniform?!
Katrina Kaif also promoted Aajab Premi Ki Ghazab Kahani channeling her inner, teenage self (cute T-shirt, hair bands et all). And though it was oh-so-cute at first, after a point it got a tad too sweet. Don’t ya think so?
But we couldn’t fault Ms Kaif’s wardrobe choices during the promotional trip of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Ditto for her co-star in the film, Kalki Koechlin. Smart, trendy and the right amount of sexiness keeping with the mood and feel of ZNMD.
And of course who can forget the absolutely gorgeous run of the Aisha leading ladies? Sonam Kapoor, Ira Dubey, Amrita Puri and Lisa Haydon (not to forget the uber chic producer Rhea Kapoor) did total justice to all the Diors, Ferragamos and Manish Aroras lavished on them.
Talking of Sonam Kapoor, I am rather curious to see how she styles her Mausam promo looks. In the movie she dons two very different looks – one is a simple, Indian village belle look and the other is a very retro, sophisticated London town girl (long flowing gowns, marcel waves – the works) look.
We liked her Grecian princess look at the Mausam first-look launch. We will keep you posted about the rest of the campaign.
Also next up is Barfee. I wish the very hot Priyanka Chopra takes a break from the same old, same old super-short, fitted dresses and tries something fun and new. Although her Calcutta promotion look (picture below) doesn’t give me too much hope 😛
With Ra.One, Don 2 and so many other interesting films lined up, I am sure we will have many fashionable outings. We are all eyes… bring it on girls!
