Bandra’s popular eating joint, Out Of The Blue opened its Powai outlet last night and Dhruvi and me were part of the opening night guest list. Unlike the Bandra outlet which has the charming courtyard, this one is situated on the first floor of the Haiko Mall in the swanky Hiranandani Gardens of Powai (call it a personal quirk but I don’t like malls as locations for restaurants/pubs….but then again in Bombay space is always in short supply.)
The interior was fuss free with wooden beamed ceilings, dim lights and panels with glass wines on display (most of which, as the Head Chef told us were from their own vineyards).
What we really liked was the glass-enclosed outside section which had the wooden deck chairs with lots of cushion thrown in and its very own Black Label bar. On a leisurely evening, we can go back there and have a couple of mojitos.
Now talking of bars, the bartenders were a grumpy lot specially given it was the opening night. Sorry for judging but if you can’t fix me my vodka-coke with a smile I would rather not have it from you.
Of the starters being circulated Dhruvi had the bruschetta (topped with cheese chunks) which she found ‘okay’ and I had the Cajun Chicken which I thought was the right spicy.
We sampled the desserts (our Kryptonite) and the Cheese Cake was a little too rich and sweet for our liking. The Belgian Chocolate Cake though made us chocolate lovers happy (and a tad guilty).
The evening also saw the unveiling of the Out Of the Blue Mascot, a head-to-toe blue wizard by Mr Surendar Hiranandani. This was followed by the Blue Man Show, in which a group of lads in blue woolen masks did some cool Hip Hop, aerobics moves (reminded us a little of the Pardesi song from Dev D).
All in all a pleasant evening, some teething hiccups notwithstanding. But Out of the Blue has been around for a while and we are sure they will rock it very soon.
All The Best!!
