Azad Maidan was a sight to behold this evening – its air resonated with cries of Jai Hind! and it was decked in tri colours – flags, badges, arm bands, T-shirts and caps. People from all walks of life had assembled in a peaceful expression of solidarity with Anna Hazare’s movement. There were many professionals from the nearby offices, students and senior citizens. Amongst the known faces I spotted Purab Kohli in a black “I am Anna” T- shirt, music composer Vishal Dadlani and Raghu Ram of MTV Roadies fame.
What struck me was that despite emotions running high it was a very peaceful gathering sans the slightest hint of tension. Kudos to the people and the police for showing maturity!
Earlier in the day as soon as news of Anna’s arrest broke out, our Bollywood Twitter denizens unanimously condemned the arrest.
We at MissMalini fiercely guard our freedom of expression and respect everyone’s right to peacefully express his or her opinion. To quote Voltaire, the great French philosopher “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.”
