I love animation movies. They always transport me into a fairy tale world which is so perfect that I secretly wish I lived there. So, when MissMalini asked me to review The Smurfs 3D I knew I was in for a smurfy good time.
Let’s talk about the movie first or else I won’t be stop raving about how much I loved taking my daughter, Allisah for her first movie ever (she’s eighteen months old).
So, the movie’s a tale of these mythical tiny blue creatures called The Smurfs that live in happy mushrooms in a quaint village for hundreds of years.
The local wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) is pure evil. He’s out to capture the Smurfs so he can create a magical potion that will enhance his powers. When Clumsy Smurf lands himself in a chase with the wizard’s rather ferocious cat called Azrael, the Smurfs tumble out of their village and into New York City.
Now, that’s when all the fun begins. My favorite Smurfs are
Clumsy
(watch out for this little guy) who you just want to hug so bad and
Smurfette
, the
lone hottie female smurf
(Katy Perry) who wins you over with lines like’ You smurfed with the wrong girl’.
In their big city adventure, the Smurfs meet Patrick Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris) and his wife Grace Winslow (Jayma Mays) who become a part of their crazy ‘let’s figure out a way to get back home’ plan.
What I enjoyed most about the movie (apart from all the Smurf talk I learnt) has to be the hilarious human-smurf interaction. The kids will love their funny antics and the 3D (unlike a lot of movies that are just 3D for the sake of 3D) totally adds to the fun element with things popping out all the time.
My daughter loved the wizard’s evil cat (she must’ve done something right) and the geeky Brainy Smurfs.
As for us adults, it’s just a very happy movie that reminds you that we’re all really special and should be totally proud of the unique gifts that we’re born with.
A sheer cinematic delight, the movie woos you with its innocence and its spectacular visuals. So, I’d say, get your 3D glasses on and let’s go smurfing!
