The recently concluded Delhi Couture Week successfully shrugged off all the controversies and doubts that were plaguing it right from the start. From the pull-out by the official sponsors to the last minute change of dates, the drama was inevitable. However, what one could not ignore was the glamour in the form of Bollywood personalities, all of whom flew into the Capital to support their favourite designers.
Our reporter, Sandeep V. from Delhi, shares a few tid-bits….
Fardeen Khan arrived with his wife Natasha and shocked most people since he looks a shadow of himself now, compared to his initial days in Bollywood. The chiseled look that wooed women then has been taken over by double chins and an ever broadening waistline. Wearing a grey strip suit with a white shirt, Fardeen failed to make any impact.
On the other hand, his cousin, Zayed Khan opted for a chic, all-casual look with a leather jacket (guess Delhi’s summer is a friend) and boots, sitting in the first row of Manav Gangwani’s show. Zayed hooted and cheered out loud for the models and at times, he was the only one doing that in the whole main stage area.
Sonakshi Sinha was admired by all for strutting the ramp for designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil Mehra. However, we did not fail to ignore the comments from the crowd behind us, stating how she still needs to shrug off those winter kilos. Walking as their showstopper, Sonakshi was dressed in a heavily embroidered overcoat with an eye catching gown underneath. This time around, she showed enough confidence on the ramp, managing to walk effortlessly with the billowing confection. Remember her fall when she first attempted on walk the ramp a few years ago?
Sophie Choudry has definitely come of age from her pop-diva days and now dresses like she belongs in the big league! Dressed in a sequined yellow sari by Manav Gangwani, Sophie kept her profile low but definitely looked charming.
Jacqueline Fernandez is undoubtedly Bollywood’s hottest property. She grabbed all the shutterbugs attention during her visit. Dressed in a sequined grey sari with nude neck and minimal jewellery, Jacqui personified the reason why she is being labelled as the sexiest in the business, moving way ahead of the likes of Mallika Sherawat and Bipasha Basu.
Her one-upon-a-time favourite director, Ram Gopal Verma, might have kept her away from his latest venture’s promotional activities, but Urmila Matondkar was still a face to reckon with at Delhi Couture Week.
Urmila was spotted in an anarkali suit (by Manish Malhotra) with a thick velvet border that accentuated her look. The usage of bright colors made sure she was clicked enough by the shutterbugs.
