I love Indian weddings. Being a half Punjabi (from my mum’s side) the idea of all the pompous ceremonies like Mehendi and Sangeet really excites me! I love dressing up for them and though most people may disagree, I love the wedding khana too especially the endless helpings of mouth-watering kulfi and falooda.
Last Sunday, MissMalini sent me to cover a wedding. Now, I know that sounds unusual at first but this one was literally the most star studded wedding in Mumbai in a long time It was the wedding of Dr. Shefali Trasi, daughter of renowned skin specialist and dermatologist Dr. Srilata Trasi and dental surgeon Suresh Trasi with Dr. Abhishek Narulkar.
Sushmita Sen and Farah Khan Ali were at the Mehendi and Sangeet ceremony which was held on Friday at the Khar Gymkhana Club. And then there was a star studded wedding and reception on Sunday. I was at the reception which happened at the G.A Kulkarni Auditorium in Khar. The gala ceremony began with the live orchestra band welcoming the bride and groom on stage with some traditional Indian music.
The couple posed on stage for pictures with each guest that went up to wish them. And boy, I think the bride’s jaw must have hurt real bad from all that incessant smiling as there were so many guests that came to bless them that evening.
But that’s why weddings are so cute and a tad annoying. You have all your adorable aunties and uncles showing up and they can’t get enough of ya!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s mother, Vrinda Rai was one of the first guests to arrive. I also had the delightful opportunity to meet legendary film star Dilip Kumar and his wife, Saira Banu who were there to wish the couple despite Dililp Saab’s deteriorating health condition. The highlight of the evening was the presence of Madhuri Dixit who looked stunning in a gold lehenga.
So good to see her back in Mumbai where shutterbugs love her to death. Also, I had a fun interaction with Nazia Hussain, the grand niece of Nargis Dutt about her debut in Bollywood and her legacy. Finally, I helped myself to a generous portion of the delightful Maharashtrian spread at the buffet (calorie counting at weddings is a strict no-no) and sampled some of the bling Indian mithai on display. Truly an affair to remember.
