Last month, TIME OUT (India) magazine launched the Q-Card – “Asia’s First Gay & Lesbian Lifestyle Card” for members of the LGBT community in India. This card (It looks much like a credit card with a rainbow stripe on it) gives the user fabulous discounts at various restaurants, boutiques, lifestyle stores and hot-spots in Mumbai city like Zenzi, Bonobo, Mocha, Cinnabon, Azaad Bazaar, D’Kloset and Goa Portugesa
The Q Card also offers you discounts on the Salvation Star parties and Pink Rupee Night parties. The list of outlets and partners where one can avail of discounts on the Q-Card was helpfully compiled by the Humsafar Trust.
Recently, MissMalini had a contest where one of her readers won a Q-Card and we went along with him for a bit of shopping to test the experience.
Being a fashion junkie, he (name withheld on request) decided to shop at D’Kloset in Bandra, situated right opposite the famous Hawaiian Shack. Part of the choice was in the fact that he knew the owner, Inder Vhatwar.
Inder was charm personified and showed us around his cozy little shop which stocks an array of jeans, belts, shoes, tee shirts, shirts and funky trinkets.
After taking a look at everything the shop had to offer, our reader decided to settle for a pair of new shoes – and that was a hard choice since he wanted to buy out the store. Inder, of course, was only too happy to show him pairs in vibrant hues. After trying on some funky footwear, our reader finally settled for a pair of green and white sneakers.
Priced at Rs.1899/- our reader flashed his Q-Card and Inder was quick to calculate a special 15% discount for him. The final price was Rs.1614/- only.
Happy with the fabulous discount of around Rs.250/-, our reader promised to send more queer and queer-friendly people over for a shopping spree.
