Ever wondered what it would be like to own iconic memorabilia from Hollywood’s greatest movies ever made. Well, the dream is actually going to come true for some as costumes worn by screen goddesses are set to go under the hammer on June 18. We bring you the lowdown on Hollywood’s iconic costume auction.Debbie Reynolds who acted in movies like Singin’ in the Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, is auctioning legendary film costumes which she has been collecting for over 50 years.
Marilyn Monroe‘s subway dress in The Seven Year Itch is one of most iconic (and seductive) gowns in Hollywood history. This ivory, pleated halter dress was designed by William Travilla, and the Profiles in History auction house, where the June 18 auction will happen estimates the value of this legendary gown between $1 million and $2 million. (Whoa!) A section of fans have protested to this public display and auction of this epic piece of Hollywood history.
Barbra Streisand’s sleeveless gold velvet, jeweled gown from “Hello, Dolly!” which was supposedly the most expensive costume ever made for a movie will also be up for sale. We like. Now, I absolutely adore Audrey Hepburn and I particularly loved her in My Fair Lady, so her Ascot dress from the movie on auction totally makes it to the top of my wishlist along with Julie Andrews’ costumes from The Sound of Music.
There’s also this green-velvet “drapery” dress hat worn by Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With the Wind up for grabs but the cutest has got to be the signature bowler hat worn by Charlie Chaplin’s in his Little Tramp character. (Aww.)
Also, up for grabs are Judy Garland’s Ruby Shoes from The Wizard of Oz, Elizabeth Taylor’s headgear in Cleopatra and many other pieces of spectacular movie memorabilia. So, watch out as Hollywood’s greatest goes up for sale.
