Resort collections are popular for a reason, you can wear these clothes all year round and they are a great alternative to just boring everyday wear. Additionally, for those who are not fashion savvy, resort is extremely wearable while keeping it stylish. Personally, I love resort wear as it’s utilitarian, and offers many fashionable staples for the season (you know how much I cling to my basics!). Here are a few collections I thought best sum up this years (or rather next years) resort wear.
Gucci
If you like to look sophisticated with a punch of glamour, then Gucci should be the brand you jump to. This season Frida Giannini looked into the Gucci archive but decided not to be heavy handed with the 50-60s like her previous collections. I love the pop of chartreuse yellow with black, white and gold. Also seen were tangerine and purple dresses perfect for cocktail hour. All together a powerful collection that can easily transform from work-wear to evening wear.
Reed Krakoff
Reed Krakoff is not that well known.. as yet, but definitely a name to look out for. He has that easy glamour quality that Tom Ford brought to us in the 90s. His shift dresses in lighter than air fabrics, brings an informality and comfort to his collection. The python print was not at all over the top and added just that bit of edge to his otherwise wafty garments.
Burberry Prorsum
Christopher Bailey really knows how to keep Burberry’s roots and make it truly modern, and he has done it season after season. What I particularly liked and noticed this resort that the garments had a craft mans feel to it. From the subtle wooden bead detail to the geometric prints, the garments has a artisan nuance yet still sticking to the strong Burberry structure. My favourite garment from the collection is the two-tone bonded leather trench coat (middle picture), how gorgeous is that?
BCBG Max Azria
I’m sure just like me, other girls are salivating over this sexy, sassy and bohemian collection by BCBG Max Azria. Definitely inspired by the 70s, these dresses are the ideal wardrobe for the summer vacations. The play between embroidered fabric with sheer insets and his use of colour is what makes this collection stand out. I personally love the full volume jumpsuit with the rope neck detail, it’s fun and ultra sexy.
Roksanda Ilincic
Fluorescent grass is the name of the colour Roksana Illicic named her green that was so predominant in her resort collection. As soon as I saw this collection I was taken by the unique style of it, the colour really didn’t bother me that much at all. There is a definite Marlene Dietrich (my favourite fashion icon) 50s feel to the entire collection, but it’s done in a pop art, punch you in the face sort of way that is typical of Roksana. Although simple in design when put together the real strength of the collection is evident (turban and all). It’s a great change from the otherwise safe resort wear collections we’ve seen.
