With a couple of surprise showers already, the monsoons seem to be heading our way a little sooner than anticipated this year. We’re not complaining though, there’s nothing like the gorgeous Bombay rains and a hot cuppa chai to chase the blues away!

Wellies, Gumboots, Rainboots

These top the shopping list as getting a perfectly good pedi ruined time and again has taught me well! So away with the rubber slippers (which get goop all over your legs FYI) and in with the funky wellies. There’s a wide variety of prints and colours to match your mood. Do I hear you say they get your feet feeling too heavy? Well, as they say… to gain some you gotta lose some and on the plus side you can happily splash around on the sly when you want to with no tell tale tracks (admit it, you do it all the time!)

Oh how I heart these floral rain-boots. Florals are quite my current obsession (and everyone else’s in town by the look of all the stores, from Vero Moda to Globus abloom.)

A Trenchcoat

I love how Daphne Guinness wears her classic trench with a signature updo and sky high Mcqueen heels. So crisp and businesslike. Come to think of it, you could probably tide through the Bombay floods in these if you get past the initial sacrilege of getting your McQueens a-drippin’ in the first place.

Also, a special mention for the very innovative rain-wear that young Brit designer Christopher Raeburn has been putting forth for a few seasons now.

Pick a black one to blend in with the sea of black out there, an outrageously vivid one to stand apart, or go with the bubble umbrella to shine the spotlight on your super cute outfit!

The clothes

Oh no, the clothes don’t have to play second fiddle to your rain gear. Quite the contrary, let them hold their own with a pop of colour and bold accessories to match. Preferably, go short to keep from soaked fabric sticking to your shins. Synthetic fabrics tend to dry out faster so invest in a few polyester pieces. Pleated skiorts (a divided skirt for the uninitiated: they have a fab polka pair at Zara), comfy shorts or skirts would be a perfect pick.
