Anand Kabra is genius at mixing Indian wear with contemporary sensibilities in a way that is eye catching, unusual and most importantly wearable. A welcome change to an otherwise dark winter colour pallet, Kabra decided to be vibrant with citrus yellow and orange, classic gold and white, touches of brown and black. Brides who want a change from the usual heavy sequined trousseau pieces can find great options form this latest collection. Here are some of the key looks from the collection.
Something for the Bride
I’m a huge fan of the super short choli (only for the owners of washboard abs though), in solid colour and light in embellishment. The lehenga is gorgeous with heavy crochet and mirror work, it’s made special with a copper sequined border on the under skirt.
Options for the Bride’s Maid
I love the idea of having your bride’s maids matching the bride, especially at an Indian Wedding (it’s common practice at catholic weddings). It’s a sort of contemporary way of having your brides maids match, but doing it with Indian ethnic wear twist. Think of a sangeet with the bride in the white ensemble (see above) and your bride’s maid and maid of honour in these yellow outfits. How gorgeous would that look (hint hint MissMalini ;-D). Kabra gives us many options to achieve that.
Concept Sari
The concept sari either you love it or hate, Kabra gives us two versions, one that is very Indian and another that is very contemporary. Personally I’m not a big fan of the concept sari, but having said that I really like the printed, almost naughty school girl version Kabra put out.
Layering for Winter
Anand Kabra decided to layer short jackets with long blouses to give the sleeve an unusual look for winter. My favourite look from the collection is the all white ensemble Bhavana Sharma is wearing (above, pic in the middle). The use of lightweight fabrics are perfect for layering and for our mild Indian winters.
