Amrapali Jewels has been adorning the famous Bollywood and Hollywood peeps for a while. They’re every stylist’s preferred choice for a shoot. So, when MissMalini asked me to cover the store opening for her, I was thrilled. Based out of Jaipur, Amrapali was founded in 1978 by Rajesh Ajmera and Rajiv Arora – two young graduates with a passion for ancient history and a vision for re-introducing long forgotten jewellery designs and manufacturing techniques to the world. The company has its showrooms in Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Bangalore, London and New York. They have been at the Oberoi Shopping Centre at Nariman Point for the last 22 years. However, they recently moved to a bigger space in the New Oberoi Shopping Centre. And I took about 25 minutes to find it. Since I don’t want you to go through the same, here’s the route. Formerly known as the Oberoi Hotel, the entrance now reads The Trident hotel. In the Trident, you will find the Oberoi Shopping Centre. However, that’s the old one. You need to walk out of the hotel on to the other side of the road, cross the bus stop and enter the New Oberoi Shopping Centre. In the New Oberoi Shopping Centre, shops 28 and 29 are Amrapali Fine Jewels. These particular shops house some fine gold and diamond jewellery.
What has always fascinated me about Amrapali is the ease with which you can wear the pieces with both Indian and Western outfits. This fusion reflects in the design of the jewellery and is definitely its USP. All you brides-to-be can definitely check out the store for some chunky bridal pieces. While at it, you can pick up lighter pieces for your trousseau or casual wear. I’m eyeing the gold ruby ring. I’m sure we’re all going to dazzle like stars after shopping at Amrapali. Don’t you agree?
