It’s starting to warm up and there is nothing worse than the feeling of being cooked in your clothes. We all love to cling to our denims, but you might have noticed just how hot and sticky wearing jeans in the summer can get especially in humid climates. So shed those spandex bodycon dresses, skinny jeans and polyester blouses (that they claim are Satin) and opt for our favorite go to fabrics for the summer. Mainly we’re talking about Cotton and Linen and the unsung hero we often forget – Silk. So when shopping for your summer wardrobe, look for natural fabrics, stay away from the synthetic and man made options.
Cotton
It’s not the world best kept secret everybody knows how amazing cotton feels in summer. Don’t just wear a t-shirt and shorts; with cotton giving your body room to breathe, try layering. I love to throw on a cotton vest over a summer dress and scarf. It’s a feminine bohemian look and helps to cover up from the harsh rays of the sun!
Linen
Linen is a wardrobe staple, whether you hate the fact that it wrinkles so much or not, it really doesn’t matter. There is nothing more chic than a pair of linen pants, a cute halter top and a straw hat. Personally though I love linen dresses, you might have to add a can full of ‘spray on starch’ but it’s worth it.
Silk
It’s the most luxurious fabric for summer with it’s subtle sheen and it’s many textures (there is a type of silk for all tastes). I personally love raw silk and silk crepe. For summer cotton-silk and raw silk are my go to fabrics. I love to get a vibrant colour silk fabric and make just a basic skirt or blouse (or even kurti) and team it up with a white tee or pants. Try it out yourself just get a good tailor!
