The Lavasa Women’s drive was quite I hit I hear with a record number of women participating to celebrate International Women’s Day. On a cool breezy morning, thousands of women gathered at Bandra Reclamation Ground, Mumbai and Golibar Maidan, Pune to participate in the 3rd edition of Lavasa Women’s Drive (LWD). They were greeted with hot khichdi provided by Iskon Food Relief Foundation. Every car was provided with water from Qua Natural Mineral Water & LWD anthem CD. In Mumbai, Arjun Rampal and his wife Mehr Jessia flagged off the first car. Shweta Tiwari, Deepti Bhatnagar, Suchitra Pillai and Nauheed Cyrusi drove the Rosie Car Nissan Micra and Nissan Teana in aid of women’s cancer prevention through early detection. A large contingent of bollywood celebrities and eminent personalities like Priya Dutt, VJ Jose, Iqbal Khan, Bikram Saluja, Hiten Tejwani, Gautam Kapoor, Sameer Soni and Sushma Reddy were there too. Participants were also given goody bags with VLCC vouchers and Fantasie chocolates. Roopa Ganguly, Nauheed Cyrusi and Tarana Raja drove all the way to Lavasa and apparently it was awesome!
Psst! Vivek Oberoi landed in Lavasa in a swanky chopper to cheer the women participants. Once they got there Lavasa was packed with water sports, chaat street, an exotic massage corner by VLCC and a performance by Shibani Kashyap.
In Pune, Abhijit Sawant, Pooja Chopra, Nandan Bal and Nagesh Bhosle flagged off cars. Vedita and Shilpa Shukla, cast members of upcoming movie Bhindi Bazaar were there too. Women participants made it from Mumbai and Pune to the cool picturesque Lavasa following all the rules set by WIAA on the 240 km stretch following the tulip chart provided. The drive was in Time-Distance-Speed format (TDS).
LWD is supported by Women’s Cancer Initiative by Tata Memorial Hospital, conducted by Western India Automobile Association. The event was managed by Convergence Events and Promotions. The Lavasa Women’s Drive will end with the final prize distribution is to be held on March 4, 2011 at The Hyatt Regency, Andheri East, Mumbai.
