Pritam has reportedly plagiarized Razia Gundo Mein Phas Gayi, an item with Mallika Sherawat from the upcoming film Thank You, starring Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor (which is also Freudian Slipping’s least anticipated film of the year). While Pritam has been known to plagiarize music from other countries, he is not alone in Bollywood, as many other music directors have also done so In fact, I even found a website devoted to the topic!

This is not unique to Bollywood, as global acts, like the Black Eyed Peas and even Coldplay have faced such allegations. The thing is, I am not against sampling music from other parts of the world and bringing it to Bollywood, but it has to be done right. Here is where I commend Karan Johar for buying the rights for Pretty Woman from Roy Orbinson, for Kal Ho Na Ho, and I loved Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s resulting track from that movie. So, what surprised me is that Bollywood music has been borrowed by other international artists. I was aware of the film Moulin Rouge featuring Chumma Chumma, from China Gate, but in this case, it was Serbian popstars using Bollywood music. (and the funny thing is that the songs are from recent Shah Rukh Khan movies!)
Love Mera Hit Hit
This song is from Billu Barber (a favourite film of mine) and was sampled by a Serbian/Bosnian pop singer named Anabela Dogani for her song Igra Istine.
Dance Pe Chance
Similarly, Jelena Karleusa, another Serbian popstar, also sampled this song from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. However, Jelena has reportedly sampled the song with the required permissions.
MissMalini readers, are you aware of any international hits inspired by Bollywood?
