Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld

For years Paris Couture has been known as the most spectacular and exquisite that fashion has to offer. So it comes as no surprise that one of France’s oldest design houses would take center stage at their couture show. Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld dazzled his loyal fans with a collection unlike any other going on at the moment. He decided to break away from all things heavy and dark and brought light on to the runway. Inspired by artist Marie Laurencin’s painting of Gabrielle, Lagerfeld sought to capture the sweetness of the painting that Madam Chanel detested.

Looking at his creations, it’s unbelievable how he’s made fabric look lighter than air. The soft bright colours studded with tone on tone sequins made the garments appear luminous. I loved the sequined white leggings and pointed-toe ballet flats, a youthful play on closet staple.

What stood out the most was the jacket, skirt and trouser combination. The stylist of the show put together, short skirts over slim fit trousers along with a jacket. A great look if done right with matching colours to make it look like one complete outfit.

The showstopper wasn’t a Hollywood.. or Bollywood actress but rather a model from late 80’s Kristen Mcnamy. She walked down in the Chanel bride outfit that was simple and chic, and the perfect end to the show. Maybe our Indian designers should take a hint, and focus on their collection rather than who’s ending it!
