So I checked out the Mathuradas Mill culture crawl earlier today conceptualized by Elsie Nanji (managing partner Red Lion brand design ideas) and crew. Soooo neat! I’ve always envied cities where you hear about those recurring carnivals, live open air concerts even parties in the park and it looks like Mumbai is finally making that leap! Seriously go check it out, there’s amazing street food (all made super hygienically), kitschy pop-art on everything from umbrellas to throw pillows at The Loft, a superb art collection at Highlight, movie screenings (watch Film-maker Mahesh Mathai’s Bhopal Express tomorrow night – so far they’ve screened Little Zizou and Luck By Chance), web workshops, delish galauti kebabs (Aria you were right!) and heck even a karaoke competition tonight where the winner gets to record at the Blue Frog studios. It’s on again tomorrow from 4pm so drop into the Mills (right by Zenzi and Blue Frog) oh and remember Blue Frog’s outside bar is offering happy hour drinks 100rs a beer or vodka and Srila Chatterjee (executive producer Highlight Films and partner Blue Frog) introduced me to the coolest little concoction as well, kokum + vodka = lip-smacking desi cocktail. Yum 🙂
Didjya Know?
The kokum is native to the western coastal regions of southern India and is rarely seen beyond this area. Even in India it is used only in the regional cuisines of Gujarat Maharashrta and several southern states where large glasses of kokum sherbet are downed during parched summer months. In this region the sweltering heat demands refrigerant (cooling) ingredients in food and drink. Kokum is well known to counteract the heat.
