Looks like its going to be a good week for variety on the social circuit eh? The British Council & Penguin Books India are launching William Dalrymple’s “Nine Lives – In Search of the Sacred in Modern India” tomorrow at the Seaside Lawns, Taj Lands End, Bandra, Mumbai. William Dalrymple will read excerpts and Susheela Raman will provide the live music. I remember Mr. Dalrymple’s visit to Mumbai some years ago. He even came and rocked it up with us at Insomnia (remember Kenny?!) I vaguely remember him having a huge ego… 🙂
I guess I shouldn’t say anything before I actually read the book but Amazon reviews like “Nine Lives is a modern Indian Canterbury Tales” make me cringe. Why does everybody feel this overwhelming desire to put India in some kind of box and label it “Modern” or otherwise? It is what it is, and it is like nothing and nowhere else. Get over it!
