Sunday afternoon Mumbai’s brand new Bandra-Worli sea link set the stage for David Coulthard to show off his mad racing skills in a precision Redbull Forumla 1 race car. Unfortunately the several donuts (I believe they’re called?) he did, may have overheated the engine so he only got to go once. But still quite a fun event (apart from the slightly overbearing distinction between the “Friends of Redbull” lounge and “Press junket” area. (I admit I was torn, am I friend of Redbull? Or am I simply the press?) Anyhow as it turns out I had a great view of the car, a super-preggers Amrita Arora, Arbaaz Khan, with kids in tow and Shakeel Ladakh) and rather accidentally Mr. Coulthard himself who sauntered about for a good 30 seconds before people actually recognized him!
All in all it was a fun show, big thanks to my friend Chetan Kapoor (who we all lovingly call Choogle & Chepedia, you know the type) for giving us the lo down and pointing out that Mumbai’s Top Cop was wearing Oakleys! Funniest thing ever was when someone said, “There’s DC, there’s DC!” I hear a confused voice say, “Dilip Chhabria aaya kya?”
Also a big hello to Ben (from Third Eye magazine) who was my entertainment for the day. He was racing around slapping his rookie photographer upside the head to get the perfect shot of “armored vehicle, Redbull car and hot chicks all in one frame!”
At some point a journalist basically asked David how he feels about having left the best of his career behind him with Williams which he dodged nicely. (I though that was a kind of mean question!)
Later Dino Morea and Gul Panag were there too and tweeted about it through the day.
You’re in luck Gul, looks like someone did!
