Last night I celebrated the beginning of another long weekend with lots of Vodka Redbull and very little gaps between them. After enjoying a fabulous selection of tunes at Zenzi Mills I moseyed on over to Blue Frog where any day of the week you’re likely to run in on an amazing live act and as luck would have it, Soul Mate (a sensational Blues & Rock band from Shillong) were jamming up a storm. That girl Tips has some voice on her (and a face to match.) Also not just any girl could strum an electric guitar quite like that and a lot of boys I know are now hopelessly in love. Psst! My favorite Soulmate song is “Cup of Tea” (Malika, especially for you; listen here.)
I spotted Loy Medoza (of Shankar Ehsaan Loy fame) Samir “Daddy” Malhotra of Daddy’s Windsong Wednesdays which I haven’t been to in far too long, the pretty model Tamara Moss, the Blue Frog founders who are super passionate about music Mahesh Mathai & Simran Mulchandani (next time you see Simran please go say “hello”, “thank you” and “nice Pumas!”), fellow-blogger and all around make-you-feel-good guy Amitabh Nanda (who’s not very good at standing still for pictures), stage director extraordinaire Nadir Khan, Suresh Venkat of CNBC who gave me my recent 15 minutes of fame on TV, Shrinivas Kanchi one of my favorite music junkies (also part of the Blue Frog family) and then the nights biggest buzz-kill Sikander Kher.
Now the thing is I take a lot of pictures (for my blog and otherwise) and usually people pose quite indulgently, his condition of course was that I first come and clear up whatever “misunderstanding” we had going on. Curiosity (and those Kamikazes) got the better of me and I went along; so turns out he thinks I’m mad at him because he was mean to me. The fact is, that’s not entirely untrue, he can be rude in a genuinely misguided attempt to be funny but I hear he’s turning over a new leaf and making good with everyone now which is great, good on him! But then I realized he was probably equating my occasional giggle at his expense with a personal vendetta of some sort. Believe you me, the only person I’ve ever felt the need to write about for behavior that bad was Ashish Raheja (and surprisingly even he never gave me the “why you gotta be so messed up to me?” Zoolander speech.) As far as I know (according to the rules of celebrity) there’s no such thing as bad publicity, besides anyone who chooses to step into the limelight is fair game (especially if they wear that hat!) So please believe me dear Sikander, its nothing personal, I just find you endlessly entertaining. I think its a combination of the hair, the attitude, the fact that you tend to take yourself a tad too seriously and the “Siku” stories I’ve heard, but mostly I think its the hat 🙂 Friends?
P.S. I double tweeted by mistake about Valhalla last night, but seriously that place looks like a very Sindhi/Marwari (I’m maru don’t give me that look) living room when they up the house lights. Eeks.
