Oh boy. last night was unfortunately epic. So much so that I have spent most of today feeling like a total disaster. I mean I was at Phoenix Mills to watch Love Aaj Kal and basic navigation was posing to be a major problem. (Apologies if a zombie-like girl bumped into you today, hangovers are no fun for anyone.) On the upside the movie was great (more on that in a bit…) So anyway last night started early at a friends for “cheeky drinks” (note to self: must ask Nav what that means) and then over to Akbar Sami’s new hip-hop club in Bandra called, “Bounce.”
What a great name btw “Bounce” very hip-hop clubby! Its on 16th Road bang opposite mini Punjab in Bandra, Mumbai and is a lot bigger than I imagined. I mean its not huge but more than enough space to bounce around in. 🙂 I of course got there super early since I had to hit up Marimba in Andheri next (yes yes look at me I’m such a busy bee. lol.) So I saw it in all its spacious glory, also the bathroom taps are kinda cool. Akbar Sami basically decided to give the city a much needed dedicated hip-hop, R&B, Reggae and Motown joint and I’m giving this one a double thumbs up! Psst! They start early (like 7pm and go till 1:15am.)
Akbar Sami’s favorite hip-hop, Motown, R&B & reggae tracks are:
Kiss me through the phone – Soulja Boy (R&B)
Off the wall – Michael Jackson (Motown)
Boom boom pow – Black Eyed Peas (hip hop)
I don’t wanna dance – Eddy Grant (Reggae)
Spotted: Urvashi Sharma, Dipshika, Karan Patel, Ahskay Kapoor, Kishen Mulchandani (but of course), Shaad Ali, Swetlana, Viren Shah and Naved Jaffrey. Ajay Kanuga (Alron Urban Art) and Dilip Joshi (from Bling/Poison) helped set up the slick sound & design along with DJ Clement who used to spin at China House, then shifted to High Lounge and is now back at China House were all playing host while their in house DJ Gary spun up a storm wearing these snazzy little shades.
Cute 🙂 he also shyly admitted that his favorite hip-hop tune is Puff Daddy’s, “I’ll be missing you.” I like that, old school! Ohmigod I finally found this cute rap song I used to totally love by Young MC (same guy who did Bust A Move and Funky Cold Medina) Classic.
The only thing I forgot to ask before I bounced was what was with the waiters in hats?!
