In fashion, we always welcome the new with open arms. But along with a fresh spring/summer ’16 line up, Amazon India Fashion Week is back at a new venue at the NSIC Grounds, Okhla, New Delhi. The 5 day fashion extravagance started with the textile genius of Sanjay Garg‘s Raw Mango as the official opening show, and from there the day turned out to be a riot of colours. With new trends and all kinda of amazingness led to a sexy closing show by Shivan & Narresh. Here’s what we loved about it!
Show 1: Sanjay Garg
The man is simply a wiz! The one thing that excites me about Sanjay Garg, is the fact that his collections are always full of beautifully crafted pieces and impeccable craftsmanship. The collection took inspiration from Mashru, a clothing philosophy of sorts from the 16th century, where silk and cotton are in co-existence with a refined elegance. The colour scheme was in the summer tones range but with a squeeze of vibrancy. Tradition meets new-age minimalist decadence (Yup, that’s the only way for me to word this out and rightly so!)

Show 2: Anavila and Vaishali S.
Keeping the flow of hand-loom and textiles in full speed ahead were Anavila and Vaishali S. Anavila chose beautiful weaves and textiles with a subtle but with a resonating touch of luxury. She kept her colours for the collection muted with hints of gold and silver. The collection was simple, understated but note-worthy. Vaishali’s collection was loaded with handkerchief hemlines and sheer with sheen fabrics.

Show 3: Rabani & Rakha and Vineet Bahl
…And then came the glamour. With pearl beads, butterflies and layers of sheer fabric, the summer collection present by Rabani & Rakha was dreamy. Giving us a taste of a slightly contemporary silhouette and form was Vineet Bahl with his long shirt tunics with a hint of an orient influence. My favourite parts were the broad white ribbon bows with the half skirt layering on cropped ankle length trousers.

Show 4: Kavita Bhartia
Always one to have fun with her collections, I met up with her backstage and she spoke about how her label produces their own fabrics and textures. Her philosophy is all about the ‘less is more’ thought, which she candidly mentioned while she runs around her factory saying the same mantra over and over again!

Show 5: Shivan & Narresh
Closing day 1 at #AIFW SS’16 were the boys who singled handedly dominate the resort market in India. Taking cue from Mexican artist, Diego Rivera‘s paintings, the duo presented their spring/summer showcase with a bombardment of models in the sleek cuts with shimmering skin. Now, that’s how I love to see resort wear – in all it’s sexy glory. Check out our review-here!
