It’s that time of the year again. Some of us are about to go on a party rampage, some of us are making plans for the new year while the rest of us, we’re looking back at all the greatness that happened this year. The fashion world evolved tenfold and unless you’ve been living under a massive rock these last 333 days, you’ve probably already heard about all this super fashionable news. And just incase you missed anything, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here’s a list of 18 of the most epic fashion moments of 2014.
1. Kim Kardashian Covers Vogue
Ok, you have to admit, this blew your mind! Dragon lady and all around ice queen, Anna Wintour agreed to have TV and rap royalty Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the cover of the fashion bible Vogue and once they saw it, everyone went crazy (in both good and bad ways!)! Love them or hate them, you can’t ignore them.
2. Fashion Designer L’Wren Scott Commits Suicide
L’Wren Scott had everything. Fame, fashion, beauty and a superstar beau, Mick Jagger. When she was found dead in her apartment, news broke that she committed suicide over the massive debt that her company was facing. Fashion lost a superstar – Rest in peace L’Wren.
3. Lupita Nyong’o – A New It Girl Is Born?
Hollywood’s newest darling, Lupita Nyong’o not only won an Oscar this year, she was also easily the best dressed actor at the show. In a powder blue Prada number, Lupita won everyone’s fashion hearts taking her first big step in the fashion world. Of course major campaigns with brands like Miu Miu and Lancôme followed.
4. Aishwarya Rai Is Back On The Style Track
This year, the Cannes Film Festival saw an army of beautiful faces but all eyes were firmly on the world’s most beautiful woman – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. After a few seasons of misses, she finally hit the fashion jackpot with not just one but ALL the looks she sported at the show. We still can’t get enough!
5. Rihanna Takes It All Off
Oh Ri Ri, what do we tell you? At the CFDA awards this year, where Rihanna herself was a winner, the pop diva showed up in nothing. Yes, you read correctly. A big fat (well not really fat) nothing. Obviously everyone went nuts and obviously the “Bad Gal” walked away completely unfazed.
6. Elle-O-L Vogue!
Ok this was a mega deal in Indian fashion, don’t you agree? Vogue released a cover for their May issue and immediately after, the new editor of Elle magazine put up a photo on Twitter of their cover last year. Spot the difference you guys…
7. This Cat Is More Successful Than You
No seriously, Karl Lagerfeld‘s cat Choupette is possibly as popular (if not more) as the King himself. She has her own bodyguard, book, line of clothing and accessories and is the face of a popular beauty brand. A cat managed to do this – what!?
8. Fashion Lost A Legend
Just days after appointing a new creative director, fashion legend Oscar de la Renta passed away at the age of 82. Fashion lost one of it’s greatest couturiers and the runway without him will be truly devoid of that fairytale magic.
9. Anna Wintour Spilled 73 Secrets
Yes, you read correct. In a video for Vogue, Anna Wintour finally spoke up, answering 73 questions about her life. If there’s one video you see all year, make it this one.
10. Rahul Mishra FTW!
India’s very own dream weaver, Rahul Mishra made everyone stand up and take notice when he came home with the International Woolmark Prize. Past winners include names like Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent and when one of our own made it to the list, we couldn’t be more proud!
11. McDonald’s or Moschino?
The new creative director at Moschino might have gone a bit nuts. Jeremy Scott designed a collection for Moschino that made everyone go “Happy Meal!?” Confused? Take a look at their branding. Remind you of anything?
12. Model Of The Moment
We really hope this isn’t a one time wonder. We’re loving Kendall Jenner and we love the fact that she’s more than just ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians‘ even more. She’s on the runways, in the magazines, on the covers and taking away all the campaigns! More power to you Kendall!
13. Rihanna <3 Instagram
They say Rihanna‘s Instagram page is more influential than Vogue! So when it got banned due to nudity, literally everyone was utterly disappointed (and heartbroken). Insta made good with the bad gal and maybe they’re thinking she won’t be so bad anymore – they’ve got another think coming I guess.
14. Wendell The Winner
Goa based designer and the king of luxurious whites, Wendell Rodricks won the Padma Shri this year. Aside from designing, the man contributes to the development of his city to a great extent and gives Goa it’s stamp of fashion.
15. Director Turned Designer
If you’re ever trying to impress Karan Johar, now you know what to wear! The director turned designer for Vero Moda and created a glittering collection for the season under the name ‘Marquee’. Kangana Ranaut was the showstopper.
16. Fashion At The Qutub Minar
It’s not everyday that a designer showcases his collection at one of India’s historic monuments. During the WIFW 2014, Rohit Bal‘s floral glory sashayed down the runway built at the Qutub Minar and no, you’ve never seen anything as magnificent as this!
17. Masaba Minus Satya Paul
Masaba Gupta has been everywhere and slowly (but steadily) she’s going to rule the world! Once her partnership with Satya Paul ended, she wasted no time in joining hands with Myntra and was named the creative director of Anouk. You go girl!
18. 10 Years In India!
Not only did Gaurav Gupta complete 10 years in India, he celebrated it with a bang too! But he wasn’t the only one. Iconic designer Tommy Hilfiger also completed 10 years in India and came down to celebrate (he even showed up on #MMWorld).
If we got ALL this in 2014, we can’t imagine what 2015 holds for us! Any guesses?
