So the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani trailer was launched on Tuesday afternoon, and off the bat you can imagine what sort of an event it was, considering Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were opening themselves up to some rather inappropriate questions due to their past relationship. Then of course thrown into the mix was a witty Karan Johar and an intellectual Ayan Mukerji, so you can guess what a kicker of a Q&A round that was. Such a kicker, infact, that we came away with 5 very interesting quotes from the press con. Read on for all the dirt!
1. “Ranbir is very possessive of me.” – Deepika Padukone.
There were reports doing the rounds that DP was upset with Shah Rukh Khan for taunting her about rumoured beau Ranveer Singh on the sets of Chennai Express. One journalist therefore asked Deepika if Ranbir did the same with her while shooting for this film, and DP immediately piped up to say, “Listen, Ranbir is very possessive of me and he doesn’t like it when I talk to other people.” *Ahem*
2. “Yeh bahut hi kamaal ka behuda sawaal hai.” – Ranbir Kapoor.
(“This is a ridiculous question.”) Aaand this one was as inappropriate as it gets. Someone began their question by telling Deepika that actors tend to do anything for promotions, and asked whether she would begin showing off her RK tattoo to promote this film. DP seemed stumped (as expected) but Ranbir immediately piped up, calling the question “behuda” and even telling the journo that he hopes he’s “welcomed back to the office as a hero for bringing this question to the press conference.” (Sarcasm much?!) Actually Ranbir handled this really well – he was completely firm about his point but he managed to sound nice about it, even though I’m pretty sure it ticked him off majorly.
3. “It’s not hard to act in love with Deepika.” – Ranbir Kapoor.
Ranbir was asked whether there were any “odd moments” while shooting YJHD, considering that their previous film together – Bachna Ae Haseeno – was shot while they were in a relationship. He then waxed eloquent about Deepika’s growth as an actor, after which he turned to her and asked her to smile. Once DP flashed a grin, Ranbir said, “See, when you have such a pretty smile, such a pretty actress working opposite you, you automatically can act like you’re in love. It’s not hard to act in love with her.” He went on to clarify that there was no awkwardness and they were both passionate about the film.
4. “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani stars Ranbir and Deepika. It is not a wedding invite!” – Karan Johar.
*lol* Of course Katrina Kaif had to come up in here somewhere. Someone asked Ranbir/Deepika to comment on the reports that stated Katrina was jealous of their closeness while shooting this film, and Karan Johar immediately interrupted to say that he’s waiting for actual questions about the film. KJo said that personal relationships should be kept aside when coming to talk about the film. “I just want to tell you you’ve been invited for the press conference of a film, not a wedding!” But Ranbir decided he wanted to answer the question – he said he uses such reports during the times he runs out of toilet paper. Ouch!
5. “Badtameez Dil is about shirking the rules of society.” – Ayan Mukerji.
Okay, so this was too funny. Ayan, you are AWESOME, because anyone who can manage to intellectualize what is essentially a very Bollywood-y catchphrase deserves major brownie points. Someone asked him what Badtameez Dil meant and Ayan went on to talk about irreverence, attitude and – yes – “shirking the rules of society.” Karan had a good laugh at that one and in typical KJo fashion said, “Badtameez Dil catchy lyrics hai, yaar. Hit ho jayega to aap kahenga waah kya lyrics hai.” *lol*
And, of course, you can watch it all here – we caught ’em all on camera!
