That’s right. It’s no more Mrs. Nice Girl! Move over Phoolan Devi, Madhuri Dixit Nene is about to let loose a whole lot of maa-behen gaalis*. Why, you ask?
It’s for her comeback movie Gulabi Gang which is loosely based on the life of Sampat Pal the founder president of the Gulabi Gang. A group of women dacoits who dress in pink saris and operate in the Bundelkhand region. As part of her role, she will not only learn the local dialect of the region but also learn a few juicy bad words which her character will spew throughout the film.
When she was first offered the film, Madhuri told producer Anubhav Sinha that she would go all out for the role and it was really exciting for her to play someone radically different for a change.
My spy tells me, “Madhuri has watched Ishqiya and other recent Bollywood films and realised that the language of cinema has changed over the years and that the censor board does allow profanity with an A certificate.”
I can’t wait to see Mads play a bad ass dacoit! I’m taking bets on whether there will also be an item song. *lol*
FYI Sampat Devi Pal (born 1947 in Dhangar family) is the founder and leader of a group of women vigilantes in India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state’s Banda District, her story was first published in France by Oh! and it’s called Moi, Sampat Pal, chef de gang en sari rose (I, Sampat Pal, gang leader in a pink sari). Devi is the wife of an ice cream vendor, a mother of five children and a former government health worker.
PS. …And ok, I know this may be a tad inappropriate but clearly all girls love pink #justsaying.
*Lost in Translation: maa-behen gaalis are Indian swear words, if you don’t know what they are or mean, ask your Indian friends 🙂
