Okay, this was really awkward!
So Zee Cafe telecast Miss Universe live this morning at 5:30am. It was a fun event and I was really digging host Steve Harvey‘s vibe. But I found myself eating my words because, well, Harvey made a boo boo.
Harvey named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner of the night by mistake – no, seriously. Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, who’d previously been named first runner-up, was actually the new beauty queen.
Miss Colombia was basking in her Miss Universe glory when Harvey sheepishly walked back on to stage and said:
I have to apologize. The first runner-up is Colombia.
Cut to Miss Philipines who was shellshocked when she realized she’d won. Harvey continued:
I will take responsibility for this.
As opposed to what, Harvey? As opposed to what?
He added:
Still a great night. Please don’t hold it against the ladies.
Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega removed the crown from Miss Colombia’s head and as she was placing it on Miss Philippines, broadcast had ended.
Yup, the crowning of the real Miss Universe wasn’t aired!
