What can I possibly say about Shah Rukh Khan that hasn’t been said before? I mean, I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t in love with him. And the most amazing part is that this sentiment that I feel for the man isn’t particular to me. King Khan has captured the imagination of billions of fans from across the world who love him for over two decades.
And even though I maintain that I can never really put into words, I am attempting to list out the A to Z of SRK aka 26 reasons why I love him.
A for Arms wide open
I feel like this is self-explanatory.
B for “Babuji ne kaha gaaon chhod do…
… Babuji ne kaha gaon chhodh do, sabne kaha Paro ko chhod do, Paro ne kaha sharaab chhod do, aaj tumne kaha haveli chhod do, ek din aaega jab woh kahenge… duniya hi chhod do!”
When SRK was offered Devdas, he had huge shoes to fill considering it was the third time the book was being adapted for mainstream cinema. But SRK did a fab job and the role remains a highlight in his career.
C for Chhaiyya Chhaiyya
Dil Se, like Devdas, was a standout performance by SRK. And Chhaiyya Chhaiyya became the nation’s anthem for years. I still copy SRK’s amazing moves at house parties till date.
D for Dimples
I CAN’T EVEN!
E for Energy
He’s been at it for over 20 years now and he’s still energetic and passionate about his work. Be it interviews, film sets or live shows, SRK always brings forth a special brand of energy in a way that only he can!
F for Fan
SRK the actor idolizing SRK the star- Fan is one movie that I’m looking forward to with bated breath. He’s already killing it in the teaser!
G for Gauri Khan
What is King without his Queen, amirite? A lot of SRK’s charm comes from the fact that he fell in love with a woman when he was 16 and continues to love her more and more with each passing day.
H for “Haar ke jeetne waale ko Baazigar kehte hain!”
Another iconic dialogue and film. SRK played the anti-hero in Baazigar and did it with much elan. So much so that even till the end your sympathies are with him in a skewed sort of way.
I for “Itni shiddat se maine tumhe paane ki koshish ki hai…
Ki har zarre ne mujhe tumse milaane ki saazish ki hai!
Way too many #LifeLessons in this one.
J for Jaadu Teri Nazar
Which other actor would dare to what SRK did in Darr that early in his career?
In other news, this is the first YouTube comment on the song:
K for King Khan
Actually there were too many contenders for K – Karan Arjun, Kal Ho Naa Ho (whose ending I avoid like a plague), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Johar – and many many more. But it all boils down to one important fact: he is King Khan and will always be.
L for Love
Every pore in SRK’s body is about love. I understand how creepy that sounds, but you know what I mean? Like I said, I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t in love with the man. #FirstLove
M for Mohan Bhargava
Swades was path breaking and SRK was the cherry on top. This is what Queen director Vikas Bahl has to say about the film (before he made Shaandaar, that is).
N for No Kissing Rule
So ironic that the King of romance hasn’t ever kissed on-screen (except for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, but I’m trying to block that from my memory).
O for “Oh Soniyaaaa!”
You remember this, right? #KuchKuchHotaHaiFTW
P for Perfect Papa
Shah Rukh has gone on record to say that he may be a bad actor or even a bad husband, but he is the best father in the entire world. Be it Suhana Khan, Aryan Khan or AbRam Khan, SRK is a super doting dad.
Q for Qawali
‘Nuff said.
R for “Rahul… naam toh suna hoga?”
And even Raj, for that matter.
SRK played Rahul in 8 films – Darr, Zamana Deewana, Yes Boss, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega (cameo), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Chennai Express.
And Raj in 9 films – Deewana, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Ram Jaane, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Baadshah, Mohabbatein, Chalte Chalte, Heyy Babyy (cameo), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
S for Sattar Minute
Is it just me or is Chak De the hottest SRK has looked? And that speech… my god!
T for Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana Sanam
As you know, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge is not a movie, it’s a way of life.
U for Unique
Because aint no Khan like King Khan!
V for Veer Pratap Singh
I don’t understand how some people accuse SRK of doing the same kinds of role when he is clearly one of our most versatile actors. Also, Main Yahan Hoon from Veer Zaara gives me goosebumps.
W for Wit
From his interviews to his tweets – SRK is as witty and entertaining off-screen as he is on-screen. A special shout out to his inspiring speech at Edinburgh University.
X for X-Factor
Of course, it’s years of hard work, love, luck, affection, perseverance, risk-taking and passion that’s helped sustain SRK, but you know that there is an equal amount of some serious X-factor that’s kept him relevant for all these years.
Y for Yenna Rascala
If a man can become part of the Rajnikanth folklore in a manner that SRK did, there’s no stopping him. Yup, SRK said “Yenna Rascala” in Om Shaanti Om. That’s how the “trend” started. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
Z for “Zindagi mein kuch banna ho, kuch hasil karna ho…
kuch jeetna ho, toh hamesha apne dil ki suno… Aur agar dil se bhi koi jawaab na aaye, toh apni aankhein band karke apne maa aur baba ka naam lo. Phir dekhna tum har manzil paa sakoge, har mushkil aasan ho jayegi, jeet tumhari hogi … Sirf tumhari!
I couldn’t possibly do a blog about SRK without K3G, now could I?
Happy 50th birthday, SRK. You’re the reason I haven’t sworn off love yet – thank you!
