By now, you would have heard that Chris Martin (of Coldplay) was at a bar in Delhi and did an impromptu performance for the folks there. It was the first real bit of news I heard this morning and I have, of course, reacted appropriately – lots of screaming and twitching hands and jealousy that I wasn’t present for this incredible occasion. It’s been a huge topic of discussion amongst many people this morning, but the one question I’ve heard most is, “But why was Chris Martin really in Delhi?! We didn’t even know he’s in India!” Well, here’s why!
Chris Martin – along with Freida Pinto, who was also at the bar in Delhi – are travelling to India with The Global Poverty Project, which is a global non-profit organisation that aims to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030. The two are ambassadors for Global Citizen and the Global Poverty Project. While on this trip, the delegation is going to have meetings with select government leaders and non-profit partners associated with water, sanitation and hygiene. They are also going to make field visits to check out unique projects that tackle sanitation in communities across India.
There was recently a meeting between the Global Poverty Project and CFAR (a group of women working to ensure access to water and sanitation facilities in their community). Have a look below:
Amazing, right?
