Day 2 at FDCI presents Amazon India Fashion Week came to a refined finish with Abraham & Thakore. The minimalism maestros once again presented a collection that was intelligent in its thought and impeccable in execution. The show was a quick paced one, as all A & T shows, with 42 very wearable looks. Now here’s what was cool about it.
The collection, “Old New” speaks of sustainable fashion and it obviously involved Abraham & Thakore’s love and knowledge of Indian textile traditions. The label is infamous for their extremely wearable garments in Indian fabrics that are born out of culture. The show was structured around classics from shirts, trousers, kurtas and salwar suits. But all this was presented in the light of a new day. A day where we applaud and respect our Indian aesthetics and embrace it with a new world twist.
The designers, this time brought Kantha or Sujali, a technique where one fuses old saris and fabrics together to form a new fabric. Recycling was a huge part of the show in the use of discarded X-ray sheets cut up to form embellishments, antique borders and brocades were sourced and some were recycled. It all came through in an autumn heavy colour palette of white, ivory, ecru, wine, charcoal, slate, grey, plum, and grape.

On a more candid note… It’s so nice to see garments at a fashion week show that were wearable and would appeal to a wide spectrum of individuals. Today, I plan to spend some time at the stalls, touching and feeling the clothes as that’s the best part of a fashion event of this scale. The shows are exciting and the exhibition area are stocked with the biggest names in Indian fashion! Stay tune for our coverage of shows from day 3 of #AIFW and don’t forget to follow @MissMalini.
