I often wonder what love actually is. So on a lazy Sunday afternoon, I decided to Google it. Wikipedia said,
Love is a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes that range from interpersonal affection to pleasure.
The bio in my twitter account describes me as,
I am a sucker for love <3.
But how do you know what love actually is? Apart from being MissMalini’s fashion mushroom at the age of 23, I am constantly hoping to learn, make art, take chances, ask questions, make mistakes, love fiercely, forgive quickly, let go of what doesn’t make me happy and above all, keep growing. 2014 has been an amazing year for me. I found love and I lost love. But I never found the right words to describe love. I continue to hope I never ruin what cannot be explained, trying to understand it. And with that, let’s move forward to what I learnt about love this year.
1. Find What You Love And Let It Kill You
This is my favourite love story of the year. I have always believed in the fact that we don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our paths for a reason. I am so glad to have found Harshil Karia and Vidhi Gurnani. They knew at the age of 13 they were meant to be and so they became what they thought they would be. It’s a ‘soul’ thing for these two. This year, they complete 14 beautiful years together.
Harshil says,
It’s the differences that make our similarities so much more meaningful. Its the variety that helps us both, to use a cliche, see the spice of life.
2. Space Is Just An Illusion
Boss lady MissMalini and her mister, Nowshad Rizwanullah truly define that the need of space in a relationship is only an illusion. They literally spend every second of the day together and you’ve go to see how they do it. I talk with experience. They never give up. They always find a way to make it happen.
3. Family Comes First
I haven’t really lived with my parents since the age of 6 and yes, as an Indian girl living and breathing around the world all by herself, it could get a little difficult with Indian born parents that come from a small town. However, family is family and it’s the only thing that’s going to be sticking around for you no matter what. Love over hate…always.
4. What’s Meant To Be Will Be
Ever watched Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani? That super crazy love story blew your mind? Well, I’ve seen it happen in real life. My friend Alamara Khan and her lover share a similar love story. Guess what’s meant to be will be and when it’s all finished, you will discover it was never random after all.
5. Friends Become Family
This Christmas, my friend, Monica Shah gave us a present that reminded us no matter what, you’ll always love the people who you can be yourself with – however whacky and weird that may be! Cheers to my amazing friends who became my family. Here’s to many more years of LOVE.
6. Take Chances
I hate that I cannot take names for this part of my story, but this adorable couple involves a friend of mine and her partner (who she’s been dating for over 5 years now) and there’s no other way to say this – he would practically do anything for her. I can find a 100 reasons for this relationship to not work out and only one that keeps it all together. It’s gotta be love. But you know what, he’s going to marry her either way.
7. Love Her The Most When She Deserves It The Least
This year I have come to realise that – love doesn’t make things easier. I recently saw a relationship end. The reason?
You were so busy working, I am sorry. I got attention and I slipped.
Well, this is what I have to say to the boy – If a hundred and twenty one hand written letters couldn’t make you stay and her work couldn’t make you proud. You didn’t deserve that love at all.
8. Unconditional Love Is A Thing
This was the most shocking thing I discovered this year. My two favourite boys (who will probably run away from committing until their last breath) made me believe that unconditional love is actually a real thing. Well, I’m the kind of person that believes what’s meant to be will be, but here’s a big thank you to Devang Jhaveri and Sujay Mody for making sure I believe that hearts are wild creatures. There ain’t no taming that!
9. Age Is Only A Number
If you are reading this – you’re absolutely right Sujal Shah, I’m looking at you! Not every 40 something year old gets to marry a super model (winks). If you know these two cuties, you would probably know that there is love in places you can’t describe.
10. The Law Of Attraction – Hence Proved
My sister ended up getting married to a man she had never really interacted with, until they finally tied the knot. In short – an arranged marriage. Trust me he is the complete opposite of what she is. Sometimes you’ve got to take risks and realise that love is a two way kinda thing.
At the end of my love note, I’d like to quote Frida Kalho,
Take a lover who looks at you like maybe you are magic.
Let’s strive harder at making love and not war this year. Cheers to all the people in the world who spend their lives loving harder one day at a time.
Have an amazing 2015!
Love and Light <3
